Helping to Build America's Communities Since 1936! Covering 19 counties/cities in Central-Eastern Virginia, the Chesapeake District currently has 50 clubs and just under 1800 members. The District Cabinet meets quarterly to review the efforts of the District as a whole. Clubs work independently throughout the year upon a variety of service and fundraising activities. The whole District gathers once a year at the District Convention usually held in November. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! In 2007 and with only 75% of the clubs reporting there results, the Chesapeake District Ruritans contributed over $592,000 and 83,000 hours of service to their communities. SPECIAL MESSAGE FROM 2004 NATIONAL PRESIDENT, JOHN HANCOCK:
I know I talked about this at the last Cabinet meeting but I wanted to reiterate a message about a worthwhile effort that is being undertaken by Ruritan National. Later this year, Ruritan National is sponsoring a Habitat home in Chattanooga and the completion of the house will be integrated into the 2006 Convention. It is important for all interested Ruritans to understand that any donations they would consider making go straight to the Habitat organization and would therefore be a legal tax deduction for them. It is going to cost about $50, 000 in donations and a lot of sweat equity to make this a reality for one deserving family. Please consider making a club or individual donation to this worthy effort. (Click here for more information about this effort.)
Thanks,
John

Note from Governor Grayson:
On June 27-28, I attended the Ruritan National Leadership Conference at Ruritan National Home Office in Dublin, Va. I want to share some information about what Ruritan is doing this year. The future of Ruritan and other Ruritan activities were discussed for the purposes of improving our organization. The Chesapeake District Ruritan Clubs have many quality activities being carried out. The greatest ongoing concern we have is getting new members and retaining old members.
April Cabinet Meeting minutes are available online. (Click here to link to the minutes).
